FwPlatinum came into being because we needed this realtime analysis of our logs. The first program we tried was Gianluca Rotoni's FwGold, but unfortunately it was too inefficient for the amount of traffic we received, and ate up all the CPU on our firewall management server. After a ground up rewrite, FwPlatinum was born, and our Ultra 10 now only uses 5% CPU when dealing with 33,000 connections per minute.
For compatibility reasons, FwPlatinum uses the same configuration files (with a couple of additions) and overall logic as FwGold.
